Mitsubishi Electric Introduces H2i R2-Series VRF Zoning Systems

SUWANEE, Ga. — Mitsubishi Electric US Cooling & Heating Division has introduced the Hyper-Heating R2-Series of Variable Refrigerant Flow zoning systems. It can operate at up to 100 percent of its rated heating capacity at temperatures down to zero degrees Fahrenheit – the highest performance heating capacity at the lowest temperature in its field.  The H2i R2-Series joins the Hyper-Heating INVERTER family of products, the most complete family of cold climate heating products. The patented flash injection technology allows the H2i R2-Series to simultaneously cool and heat down to minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit.

“The H2i R2-Series is the most significant development in commercial VRF cooling and heating since we first introduced VRF zoning technology to the U.S. market in 2003 and later pioneered hyper-heating capabilities in 2007,” says Mark Kuntz, vice president, marketing & engineered solutions, Mitsubishi Electric US Cooling & Heating Division. “With the addition of the H2i R2-Series to our family of products, we now offer the most complete family of cooling and heating products with cold climate performance capabilities for almost any application.”

No other manufacturer has achieved the same level of heating capacity at low ambient conditions as the H2i R2-Series – available up to 16 tons. In addition to heating at 100 percent at zero degrees Fahrenheit, the system can operate at 85 percent heating capacity down to minus 13 degrees Fahrenheit (see chart below).

Mitsubishi_2“The system is the ideal solution for commercial applications in climates such as the Midwest and New England where winter temperatures dip as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit,” says Kuntz. “The simultaneous cooling and heating capability is uniquely suited to service buildings in these climates that require varied heating and cooling points, such as multifamily housing, educational and institutional buildings, office buildings, data centers and healthcare facilities.”

The unique two-pipe configuration allows for more efficient design and installation, while the compact system components, as with all Mitsubishi Electric VRF zoning systems, allow for convenient application to both historic retrofit and new building construction. One outdoor unit can connect to up to 48 indoor units, and the heat pump is compatible with all CITY MULTI indoor unit styles, including ducted ceiling-concealed and vertical-concealed types, and ductless ceiling-recessed cassette, ceiling-suspended, floor-standing and wall-mounted types. The H2i R2-Series features up to 150 percent connected capacity.

“This enhanced Hyper-Heating INVERTER technology eliminates the need for supplemental heat in many cases, saving installation time, improving energy efficiency and addressing significant industry demand to provide heat pump operation in extreme conditions without relying on fossil fuels,” says Kuntz.

The H2i R2-Series is now available through Mitsubishi Electric US Cooling & Heating Division distribution channels. For more information, click here.
