Johnson Controls-Hitachi Launches New R-32 Ductless Residential Heat Pumps in North America

Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning announced the launch of its new portfolio of environmentally sustainable residential ductless heat pumps utilizing the low-Global Warming Potential refrigerant, R-32. The new airHome mini-splits, which feature several cold-climate models, reduce energy use and carbon emissions, and improve reliability, indoor air quality and ease of installation and maintenance.
Key features include:
- FrostWash self-cleaning technology: Traps and freezes dust and dirt, then flushes it from the coil to improve indoor air quality, preserve airflow capacity, increasing reliability and reduce maintenance
- Adaptive defrost technology: Intelligent sensors continuously monitor and detect coil frosting in real-time, maximizing heating performance and improving efficiency
- Tool-free access to the high-wall motor and condensate pump compartment: Eliminates common contractor pain points, simplifies installation and improves accessibility
- airHome 600 & 800 systems: Cold-climate, ENERGY STAR certified with HeatForce technology; up to 11.5 HSPF2, 100% capacity at -4 F, no hard cutoff
- AirHome 400 & Multi: Affordable option for milder climates and multi-zone comfort with 2–5 indoor units and individual temperature control; flexible solutions for varied household needs
