SMACNA Names 2023 Chapter Executive, Contractor of the Year
The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association has named James T. Strother Jr., executive director of SMACNA of Western Pennsylvania, as this year’s Chapter Executive of the Year. The award is given to the person who has made a positive and significant impact on SMACNA as a national association and the local chapter.
Strother joined SMACNA of Western Pennsylvania in 2001 as its executive director. During his 22-year tenure, he’s championed a strong working relationship with SMACNA’s partners at SMART Local 12. He also has assisted members through labor relations and contract negotiations. Strother has been crucial in SMACNA’s legislative relations in both the keystone state and nationally.
In addition, Kevin Gill Jr., president of McCusker-Gill, is this year’s Contractor of the Year. The annual award is given to a professional who exceeds all expectations of serving and promoting the industry.
Gill Jr. succeeded his father – and 2003 Contractor of the Year winner – Kevin Gill Sr., as president of McCusker-Gill in 2022. As president, he has shared his insight on the latest in the construction technology space at several conferences, including 2023’s MEP Innovation Conference, where he discussed getting buy-in on new technologies, and for a panel discussion at Suffolk Technologies’ “Robotics in Construction” event. Gill Jr. was also a guest on the New Horizons Foundation Podcast, where he discussed how he successfully implemented new technologies at the company and aligning stakeholders with the new processes.
