Infrastructure Investment to Power Next Generation of Growth at AHN Forbes Hospital

Construction is underway on infrastructure improvements at Allegheny Health Network’s Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. The project is part of a $63-million, multi-year investment, positioning the medical campus for resiliency, growth and greater care access in the decades ahead.
The planned investments will upgrade core building systems, including electrical transformers and switchgear, emergency generators, the chilled water plant, boilers and steam systems, fire pumps, and sanitary lines. The project also includes the construction of a new two-story facility on the campus, which will house these resources on its ground floor and a conference and education center on its second floor.
Among the most significant upgrades is the addition of two new 2.75-megawatt emergency diesel generators, each individually capable of sustaining full hospital operations. The new system will allow full operation as a self-sustaining campus, independent of the regional electrical grid, if needed.
Construction is underway, with the new infrastructure building expected to be complete within the next 14 months. The project team includes Barton Malow, McKamish Inc., Hatzel & Buehler, CMTA and DesignGroup.
