CxEnergy 2024 Fosters Innovation in Commissioning and Energy Management

CxEnergy 2024, the conference and expo held annually by the AABC Commissioning Group, brought nearly 600 participants in the fields of commissioning, energy management and testing, adjusting & balancing to San Diego, California at the end of April. A joint effort of ACG, the Energy Management Association and the Associated Air Balance Council, CxEnergy offered 32 technical sessions from industry experts.

Speakers with a range of commissioning experience covered relevant topics such as technology and artificial intelligence, workforce and talent development, updates on industry standards, case studies and more. Energy management professionals spoke about energy efficiency, savings, storage and other leading industry topics. The conference program fostered engaging discussions between attendees and speakers, connecting commissioning and energy management professionals with building owners and facility managers.

At CxEnergy’s opening plenary session, ACG Executive Director Ray Bert provided an update on the organization’s recent activities, including the ongoing process of updating the ACG Building Systems Commissioning Guideline, which is free to access for building owners and facility managers. Request a free copy here. Keynote speaker Sarah E. Maston, P.E., of Colliers Project Leaders, then spoke on decarbonization and commercial buildings, discussing the ongoing development of several significant decarbonization standards.

In addition, CxEnergy 2024 offered an expo hall featuring more than 40 exhibitors showcasing the latest software, technology, devices and other services for commissioning, energy management and TAB. New this year was the CxEnergy Technology Theater, an exciting opportunity for exhibitors to present their latest products. Headphones allowed attendees to watch short presentations from four exhibitors in the midst of the bustling expo hall.

To close out the conference, a small group of attendees toured the J. Craig Venter Institute, a research facility that generates almost all of its own energy and serves as a model for sustainability in research buildings.
