Extech’s Compact DMM Kit Tackles Variable Speed Drive Measurement Challenges

NASHUA, N.H. – Extech Instruments has launched the Extech MN62-K, a versatile kit that includes Extech’s MA62 True RMS digital multimeter and the DV23 AC voltage detector. The compact, auto-ranging Extech MA62 multimeter equips electricians, tradesmen and technicians with wide-ranging capabilities they can use every day. The convenient DV23 voltage detector helps to quickly and safely check for voltage prior to any electrical repairs.

The rugged Extech MN62 is optimized for electrical installations and repairs in residential or commercial wiring, HVAC/R work and plant maintenance. The compact new DMM delivers full-size DMM capabilities such as True RMS accuracy and a low-pass filter mode to manage noisy signals. On HVAC/R equipment or at manufacturing plant sites, where equipment like motors, pumps and blowers are regulated by variable frequency controls or drives, a low-pass filter can be activated to reduce high‐frequency noise that can result in inaccurate measurements. The MN62’s low-pass filter mode complements its True RMS capability, adjusting for distorted, non-sinewave signals to ensure more accurate readings when conducting diagnostic work or repair jobs.

A built-in, non-contact voltage detector can be used for spot checks when the DV23 is out of reach. Data functions include relative mode, automatic and manual ranging options, minimum/maximum and data hold. The configurable Auto-Power-Off can be set to save batteries or disabled for extended monitoring.

The MN62 Kit also includes the DV23 non-contact voltage detector. This pen-sized, go-anywhere safety tool quickly identifies the presence of voltage on live wires (from 50 to 600 V), even accessing hard to reach spots. Users are alerted with both a visual LED indicator and an audible alert. Plus, when only a quick check is needed, users can opt for the MN62’s built-in, non-contact voltage detector.

The easy-to-read, 4-digit display (4,000 count) can be illuminated for use in poorly lit jobsites. The new 10-function multimeter measures AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, AC/DC microamp current, resistance, frequency and capacitance. The meter can also be used for continuity testing and diode testing. The meter is backed by a Category III 600 V over-voltage safety rating and the voltage detector is rated to Category IV-600 V.

The MA62-K kit comes complete with multimeter, NCV detector, test leads, two AA and two AAA batteries. Learn more at: http://www.extech.com/display/?id=17690.
