New Resources for WaterSense Labeled Homes
To help program participants better understand the strategies for building, verifying and promoting WaterSense labeled homes, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a new Technical Reference Manual for WaterSense Labeled Homes.
The manual outlines the details of the WaterSense Labeled Homes Program from design through certification. It includes 20 standalone fact sheets focused on specific solutions for water efficiency that are either mandatory to earn the WaterSense label for homes or strategies that can be used to achieve the 30% efficiency required by the WaterSense Specification for Homes, Version 2.0. Fact sheet topics include: WaterSense labeled toilets, faucets and showerheads; dishwashers and clothes washers; hot water delivery; metering; leak detection, monitoring and inspections to ensure a home is free of leaks; landscape and irrigation design; and pools and other outdoor water features.
WaterSense also released regional fact sheets on the water-saving and performance benefits of the labeled homes in 10 cities across the United States. These fact sheets illustrate how taking a whole-house approach to water efficiency will save more water than installing the labeled products alone.
Builders, home verifiers, construction tradespeople and utilities can use these resources to better understand the program and ways to build, certify and promote more labeled homes.
