Technical Experts Needed for UPC, UMC Task Groups
IAPMO is seeking applicants to serve as technical experts on Uniform Plumbing Code and Uniform Mechanical Code task groups. Task group members participate via conference call or web meeting, share their perspectives on the code and help draft recommendations for action by the UPC and UMC Technical Committees. Applicants are not required to be members of either committee. The deadline to apply is June 22.
Special subject experts are needed to join the following UPC task groups:
- Grease interceptors: The scope of this task group is to review and update provisions addressing grease interceptor sizing, installation, inspection and maintenance.
- Heat pump water heaters: The scope of this task group is to research and develop recommendations addressing the installation of air-source heat pump water heaters.
- Construction practices for potable water systems: The scope of this task group is to research and develop recommendations addressing risk management practices for potable and non-potable water supply systems, as shown in Item No. 347 Public Comment 01 of the 2025 UPC Report on Comments.
- Ecological-sanitation systems: The scope of this task group is to research and develop recommendations addressing ecological-sanitation systems, including composting toilets and urine diverting systems.
In addition, the UMC Technical Committee is seeking subject experts to join the following task groups:
- Enclosed parking garages and gas detectors: The scope of this task group is to review and update provisions for gas detectors and sensing devices that automatically control or modulate exhaust ventilation systems in enclosed parking garages.
- Concealed building spaces and independent construction: The scope of this task group is to review and update provisions addressing concealed building spaces and independent construction as they relate to ducts and plenums.
