High-Efficiency Motor Now Includes Bearing Current Protection as Standard Feature

Regal Rexnord, a manufacturer of electric motors and mechanical power transmission products, will now offer AEGIS shaft grounding rings as a standard feature on its full line of Marathon IHP SyMAX Permanent Magnet motors. The motors are designed to operate in various HVACR equipment, including rooftop units, outdoor air systems, commercial refrigeration fans and transfer cooling fans.

Shaft grounding rings are an effective method of eliminating shaft currents that occur due to voltage spikes. Spikes can result from running a motor at variable speeds and can often be induced when motor speed is controlled with a variable frequency drive.

Since the SyMAX motor must be operated with a VFD, Regal Rexnord has built in the shaft grounding rings as a standard feature on these motors to ensure reliability, along with the other benefits of a permanent magnet motor.
