Search is on for Most Innovative HVACR, Plumbing Products
WESTPORT, Conn. — Submissions for the 2014 AHR Expo Innovation Awards competition are now being accepted through Sept. 9. The awards are presented to companies displaying the most innovative new products that provide safer, healthier, more efficient and/or more comfortable environments at the world’s largest HVACR event.
Sponsored by ASHRAE, AHRI and AHR Expo, the Innovation Awards were created to recognize, encourage and promote new product development in 10 HVACR categories. The submissions from exhibitors are reviewed by a panel of judges selected by ASHRAE who evaluate the entries based on their innovative design, application, market impact and value to the industry. The award categories are:
- Building Automation
- Cooling
- Green Building
- Heating
- Indoor Air Quality
- Refrigeration
- Software
- Tools & Instruments
- Ventilation
- Plumbing
Winners of the Innovation Awards competition will be honored at a special ceremony during the show at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, Jan. 21-23. The winning exhibitors will receive special placards to place in their booths at the show, as well as an award to display at company headquarters. From the 10 winning entries, one entry will be selected as the 2014 AHR Expo Product of the Year. Last year’s recipient was Rheem Manufacturing for its innovative H2AC Rooftop Unit, a restaurant-integrated AC and water heating system.
Exhibitors entering the awards competition may submit one product per category by the appointed deadline, however winners from the previous year may not resubmit the same product. As an integral part of the Innovation Awards program, AHR Expo and its co-sponsors donate all award entry fees to a local charity in the community where the show takes place. To date, more than $125,000 from the awards program has been donated to a variety of charitable organizations across the country. Last year’s recipient, Family Gateway, received more than $10,000, which allowed them to upgrade outdated and inefficient HVAC equipment at their Dallas, Texas facilities.
“The Innovation Awards play a very important role in the HVACR industry,” said Clay Stevens, president of International Exposition Company, which produces and manages the AHR Expo. “In addition to recognizing and encouraging new product innovation, the proceeds benefit charitable organizations throughout the U.S.”
